The Brief

The JBS Career Mobility Framework project was a JBS initiate to enhance career mobility within the business as a whole. The brief for our team was to create a series of awareness videos to kick start this process by promoting career mobility and awareness within the business, arming people with knowledge and first steps they will be able to apply if interested.

Our Challenge 

Lack of Awareness: Employees, especially line workers, are often unaware of available opportunities.

Limited Digital Literacy: Employees may not feel confident with technology, making self-directed career searches challenging.

Lack of Preparedness: Many staff members feel unprepared for job applications and lack understanding of the necessary steps.

Unclear Career Direction: Uncertainty about possible career paths and inconsistent position terminology across departments.

Our Design and Development Strategies 

To address these challenges our design and development strategies included;

Visibility: Animated videos were integrated into existing learning and communication infrastructure.

Scaffolded Experience: An introductory video explained career mobility and set expectations.

Short and Sweet: Videos were kept under 3 mins to ensure clear content delivery.

Authenticity: Videos addressed workers directly, affirming their capability to grow and appealing specifically to the role being shown.

Forward Planning: Each video included concrete steps for learners to take immediately after watching.

Our Project Outcome 

The project received overwhelmingly positive feedback from staff, highlighting the simplification of complex work environments and encouragement to apply for new roles. The videos have been used to attract 600 additional positions for the Dinmore abattoir. Future plans include expanding the video suite, developing an info-sharing app, and designing branching scenarios for targeted eLearning interventions.
